We appreciate you taking the time to star on this weeks “Interview of
the week” section on TejanoFM.com. Where fans get to read about the
thoughts and experiences of new tejano artist and the legends of the
industry. A place where fans can learn a bit of biography on their
favorite artist and get some entertaining insides on their careers.
Here’s a series of fun and informative questions we have just for you!
►
How long have you been in the tejano music industry?
►
Since '95 I was actively from '95 - '01. We took a decade break and focused on writing, producing, working behind the scenes from 2001-2011.
►
Who are your greatest musical inspirations?
►
My grandfather, Father, and brothers!
►
Our you working on a new album? If so what can the fans expect to hear?
►
Yes, "La Segunda Vez" with the first single out "Hasta El Final." It's really hard to explain, when you listen to our music you can definitely hear our Texas roots! You can also hear American Pop influences...I love melodies, rhythm and lyrics that define a moment. We are working closely with Abel'z Label out of Mexico City...many good things to come! Visit our reverbnation page we have a sneak peek of the album with 4 tracks posted for you to sample! Leave a comment, tell us what you think! www.reverbnation.com/ezmitalamantez
►
You took a break from the tejano scene and now are on a comeback, what’s the major difference you see from then and now?
►
I can only tell you from my perspective and believe me, I could go on forever on this topic! The biggest change is the lack of involvement from our youth. When groups came to town (Sombra, Mafia, Etc) it was an event, we all went to the dances...Today, that family unity is missing...it is much easier to stay home and FB all night! The key is the youth, you get them involved, inspired and great things happen! What everyone needs to remember that live performances are what musicians need to survey, this is our 9 to 5! Without the support at the "actual" venues, musicians cannot survive. The other big difference is the impact of Social Media. Social Media has opened many avenues for self promotion and 0 involvement from the industry sharks! This is a great thing for music entrepreneurs! As an artist you control your net worth! In the 80s, Video killed the Radio Star and Today, Social Media has elevated the Video Star!
►
With years in the industry. Can you give some advice to a new tejano artist just starting up?
►
Stay true to yourself! Pick up an instrument and cultivate your craft! Practice, practice, practice...never go on stage and "wing it". If you sound good in the studio, you should sound good live! Remember your fans deserve that. Don't give up, our music needs to evolve, so we need up and coming artist...you are the future! (now time for a bit of shameless self-promotion) AND MORE importantly, if you need production work or original songs....hit me up! Ezmi2k@gmail.com
►
Do you have a ritual before going on stage?
►
I like to pick up my acoustic guitar and warm up my voice by singing "Dreams"
►
What’s the your favorite song to perform?
►
Without a doubt, "Viento Loco" I never get tired of that song...so easy to sing...nothing complicated...smooth like butter! Oh, and I love to sing "When you say Nothing at All" by Alison Krauss - that's my momma's favorite song, love just love to sing it to her!
►
What is something most of your fans might not know about you?
►
I love super hot, spicy food! I eat raw jalepenos like candy! I love to eat my nachos with hot sauce on top of the jalepenos!
►
If you had chance to play with any artist to ever play who would it be and why?
►
Soo many to choose from! I like to keep it in the family, so coming soon is a duet with my brother, Abel!! Really looking forward to that. The song is titled "Cien Anos" written for our parents and loved ones!
►
What do you foresee in our industry and how will you and your band be part of it?
►
We are a little unconventional...always have been...so with that in mind, our contribution is to continue to evolve with the times and push our music to both the older and newer generation..one cannot survive without the other.
►
